how the corporate media removed itself from the mainstream
a note from the friend who forwarded this video: i just sent a Link to a video about corporate media called "Why Nobody Trusts the Mainstream Media". i send you the link without watching the whole video. Now that i saw the whole video i would like to ask you not to distribute this video. Although we have problem with the corporate media and their support for zionists policies, this video is clearly anti-Semitic. It said Los Angeles Jewish times wrote "four of the largest five entertainment giants are now run or owned by jews" which i could not find an independent confirmation of this statement and while showing clips of Senator Bernie Sanders condemnation of corporate media without telling us that he is jewish. i apologize for this oversight.

from my friend marc, formerly of christchurch new zealand
Hi Janine,
I am ok and uninjured. There were many deaths and the toll is rising. My home is badly damaged. My two story home is in danger of becoming a one story if there are any more shakes. Last night I slept down stairs and not under the second story. This quake was the most violent of all. My neighborhood looks like a war zone. It was much worse than the first two series of quakes. This one was closer to home and there were many deaths this time. My flatmate was so freaked out she ran off dazed and hysterical and I haven't seen or heard from her since. The interior of the house was trashed. We had 9 aftershocks last night. After more than 4500 from the first series of quakes I had enough. So far I have spent 2 weeks previously without water or power. Now I am 200 km South in Oamaru. It is a beautiful seaside town. I am staying in a backpackers and will gradually make my way to Invercargill the most southern of all cities in the world. I am going to explore there until things settle down in Christchurch. I am not sure what to do or where to go from here. It will take years before my insurance claim is settled and my home was already destroyed but was ok to live in. Now I am not sure. I am due to visit the States in Mid May so am holding out for that to take a break. Hope all is well with you. Love, Marc
this is what marc wrote after the last earthquake, in 2010:
the real experts are in the streets
(photo from Victoria BC, Feb 23 2010. aren't we usually counting flowers this time of year, and lording it over the rest of canada?)
Last night I attended the launch of Transition Town Fernwood. I walked with Christina, a neighbour and friend, through our neighbourhood and into Fernwood where another friend, Anke, presented slides and explained the TT movement to a small roomful. Larry was there (Larry’s affectionately known as the most well-known activist in our city, he’s everywhere!), and one of Christina’s students (she teaches organic gardening), and Denise, a woman from our neighbourhood who I’d met at last summer’s South Jubilee picnic. I also saw Max in the audience, and one or two other familiar faces.
The Transition Town movement, in a nutshell, is about visioning a post-carbon world. What will it look like? How will we create it, community by community? There’s no point in waiting for government to build it, we’ve just got to get to know our neighbours, learn and share our skills, turn our common greenspaces into gardens, that sort of thing. It’s communism, in its purest form.

**THE OLYMPIC VILLAGE TENT CITY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT**
photos of 2010 tent village here
The affordable housing component of the Athletes Village has been reduced from a planned 66% to less than 10%. The units promised to the poor and working poor remain empty and unsellable, and the city refuses to allow anyone but the richest to call them home. On February 17th, Bob Rennie and the City shamelessly relaunched their condo sales campaign at the Olympic Village for the third time, attempting yet again to sell-out promised social housing units.
The Tent City is a direct action and community effort to reclaim housing at the Olympic Village. At the same time, the City has been actively gentrifying the Downtown Eastside. The 10 Sites Campaign will fight to secure land for much need social housing in the neighbourhood.

the godfather, the patriarchy, the egyptian revolution
I invested four hours, over two days, watching The Godfather for the first time in my life. This, after investing many more hours watching a Peoples’ Revolution, for the first time in my life. When The Godfather was released I was 11 years old. At the time of the Peoples’ Revolution, I’m approaching 50.
Wael Ghonim, the Google executive captured by Mubarak forces and held for 12 of the 18 day Egyptian Revolution, was born a year after I graduated high school.
I spent last night with dreams and nightmares, inspired by The Godfather, and my fears that the Egyptian Revolution is being usurped without much awareness of what's going on. It’s Valentine’s Day and my task, as a writer, an activist, and an aging human still trying to understand how the world works (for my own sake, if nothing else), is to put all of this together.

what victory means ... by tweeter Marwa Elnaggar
A friend & I are making a list of what #Egypt victory means: 1. We no longer have to refrain from drinking water all day!
victory means: 2. No lugging backpacks stuffed with everything we may need around again!
victory means: 3. No more thugs!
victory means: 4. No more tear gas
victory means: No more fear that someone will bomb us all to pieces.
victory means: 6. no more upset tummy night before & morning of going down to the street
victory means: 7. No more trying to fit ridiculous hardhat in overstuffed backpack.
victory means: 8. No more getting arrested under ridiculous circumstances.
victory means: 9. No more trying to hide your extra mobile phone and hoping it won't ring when you are arrested.
victory means: No more wondering: will today be thug day, tear gas day, rock day, or blowing us all into smithereens day?
victory means: No more Mom telling me to put tough cardboard in my backpack to buffer rubber bullets or thugs' sticks.
victory means: No more dressing in a dozen layers (so if police/thugs tear off clothes, there's always another layer).
victory means: I can finally wear my contact lenses again when I go out.
victory means: No more wondering if the guy walking behind me is a thug or police about to beat or kidnap me.
victory means: I can carry the Egyptian flag without getting worried about getting arrested.
victory means: not worrying about getting arrested/detained/kidnapped by police & no one finding out
victory means: Not having to make sure I go out with a group because then it's harder to get kidnapped/arrested/detained
victory: My family abroad don't have to ask me to send them a picture of myself or tweet before I leave home (just in case).
victory means: Mom no longer needs to worry about my brother getting killed when it's his turn to neighborhood-watch
victory means: No longer worrying about ending up a number on the news (of those killed/injured/detained/missing).
victory means: Not having to wonder how close the gunshots I hear are to home.
